BT proposes to remove the payphones (the phone box and the equipment) listed below, because the phone has had very little use over a significant period of time.
The Council are collating views on the removal of the payphone equipment.
BT has already put a notice on the following payphones in the Sheffield area:
The local planning authority will then consider the comments, alongside other prescribed factors and will publish in draft whether they will be consenting or objecting to the proposal on that basis.
If at this stage the Council is consenting to the equipment being removed, local communities still have the opportunity to adopt a traditional red ‘heritage’ phone box and make them an asset that local people can enjoy. It’s simple to do directly with BT and costs just £1. For more information, see http://business.bt.com/phone-services/payphone-services/adopt-a-kiosk/
