Operating for over 10 years in Hillsborough Park, Sheffield Cycling 4 All is a project that runs inclusive, all-ability cycling sessions on a wide array of adapted trikes.
Sessions facilitate disabled people and people with long term health conditions the opportunity to cycle in Hillsborough Park, accessing healthy exercise and social time in safe surroundings.
Public and condition-specific sessions are available throughout the week and on Saturdays, all run by a qualified and experienced cycle leader with a minimum of two cycling supporters.
Sessions are run from the multi-use games area at the bottom of the park, from where participants can also access the network of wide paths within the rest of the park. Session leader and volunteers are available for guided / supported rides or participants and carers can choose to explore the park independently.
The proposal is for 3 timber clad storage containers directly abutting the car park boundary between the Parkside Road entrance and the Penistone Road Gate House. The adjacent carparking spaces will be coned-off during the hours of operation to allow access through the carpark to store trikes between sessions.
The proposed location was identified as the least damaging to the parks' amenity space and the settings of listed buildings, while also serving the requirements of the project for secure trike storage and convenient access.
Currently located in front of the derelict Old Coach House, the relocation became necessary after the success of The National Lottery Heritage Fund bid by AgeUK, to convert the Old Coach House into a new community café and activity centre.
Sheffield Cycling 4 All project is run by Disability Sheffield and is funded by various grants, currently The National Lottery Community Fund, Cycling UK and Sports England, with additional assistance from Sheffield City Council.
