Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment - Call for Sites

Closes 31 Jan 2020

Opened 16 Dec 2019

Overview

We are inviting you to submit sites you think are suitable for development over the next 20 years.

The call for sites is open from 16 December 2019 to 31 January 2020.

We would like to hear from individuals and organisations across the city, as well as landowners and the development industry, to help us identify land or buildings that you think could be developed or put to a different use – eg for housing, employment, retail, leisure, health, waste, gypsies and travellers, travelling showpeople, community and recreational use.

These sites could currently be undeveloped, vacant, derelict, or in an existing use, could be in any part of the city, and you can suggest a mix of uses you think are suitable.

Why we are doing a Call for Sites

Your site suggestions will help us develop our Local Plan (which we are calling the "Sheffield Plan") that will guide development decisions in the city over the next 20 years.  It will guide the housing, business space, transport infrastructure and community facilities that we need for the future.

We last did a call for sites in 2014 in advance of the Citywide Options for Growth consultation in 2015. Since then we’ve listened to consultation comments and developed some different options to those considered previously, which respond to the climate emergency and changes to national planning policy.

This call for sites will be an opportunity to put forward new development site options and/or to update any information that you have provided previously.

How a site will be assessed

All the submitted sites and premises will be subject to a detailed assessment to evaluate their suitability, availability and deliverability.  Details of the sites will be published in a revised Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA).  This will be published alongside the Sheffield Plan Issues and Options document in summer 2020.

If a site is assessed as being suitable for housing in the SHLAA, this does not mean that planning permission will be granted for new housing on that site or that sites will be allocated in the Sheffield Plan.
