There was 100% agreement with the replant location.
There was 5.29% ‘yes’ and 94.71% ‘no’ for the replacement tree species. This result was discussed at the Sheffield Street Tree Partnership meeting and works will proceed as planned for the tree removal, in the location stated, but the final choice of replant species will be decided by this group no later than 1st October 2023.
A Platanus x hispanica (commonly known as a London plane) has been identified outside Pizza Express on Ecclesall Road as decaying.
An assessment carried out by our tree experts noticed that the tree has meripilus decay fungi, present in the root system. Fungi gradually decays supporting roots leading to complete failure. Ultimately the tree will become unsafe to retain on a busy highway. The recommendation is to proactively and safely remove the tree early.
Once removed, we propose to replace the tree with a Celtis australis (European nettle tree) in a close location to the previous tree (Outside Pizza Express, behind bus lane sign opposite number 476).
The Sheffield Tree Partnership have developed the draft Sheffield Street Tree Partnership Working Strategy. This sets out our commitment to explain to local residents the reasons behind decisions to remove trees, and provide the opportunity to challenge these decisions through an open and transparent process.
A copy of the draft strategy is available at: https://www.wildsheffield.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/FINAL-Sheffield-Street-Tree-Partnership-Working-Strategy-July-2020.pdf
We will provide a summary of the results of the consultation on this page, and so watch this space.
