Proposed changes to how we let social housing

The Allocations Policy was implemented in April 2016, it sets out how we allocate social housing in Sheffield. The purpose of this survey is to gain your views on some of the options for changes which could be made to the Allocations Policy.

In Sheffield there are a lot more people wanting to live in social housing than there are properties available. We are pleased that social housing is popular in Sheffield, but because of this, it is important that we review the Allocations Policy regularly. We aim to do this by considering the needs of our customers, along with the pressures on social housing.

The review will include amendments to existing policies, as well as introducing new policies that may change the way in which we allocate social housing in Sheffield.

These changes are intended to help:

  • Promote tenancy sustainment.
  • Ensure customers can afford properties they are offered and receive appropriate advice and support.
  • Ensure that adapted properties are allocated to those who need them.
  • Ensure that housing is allocated to people with a local connection to Sheffield.
  • Ensure that we prioritise people who need to move urgently.

The current Allocations Policy is available to download on the Sheffield Property Shop website.
