Summaries of the responses received on the Citywide Options for Growth document are now available.

The 'Executive Summary of the Responses on the City-wide Options' presents an overview of the main issues raised on the entire consultation.

The 'Summary of Responses to the Consultation Questions on the City-wide Options' presents a summary of the key issues raised under each of the consultation questions.

We did

Please see above the summaries produced.  We will produce a Consultation Report setting out our responses to the main issues raised. This will be available in summer 2018 when we consult on the draft Sheffield Plan.  The draft Plan will take account of the comments that were made.

There will be a further period of public consultation in 2019 before the Plan is submitted to the Government for public examination (when an independent Inspector will consider any objections to the Plan).

The Sheffield Plan should be adopted by 2021.

Overview

We are now seeking comments on The Sheffield Plan: Our City, Our Future - Citywide Options for Growth to 2034.

This consultation is open to everyone who would like to comment on the future growth of Sheffield - whether you are a resident, a business, a community group, a worker or someone who invests in the city.

The Sheffield Plan will be the statutory development plan for the city which will:

  • Guide new development (including housing, economic development, community & leisure facilities, transport infrastructure)
  • Help protect the environment (including countryside, open space, wildlife sites)
  • Provide the basis for deciding planning applications
  • Identify and reserve land for development
  • Support economic growth and provide certainty for developers

We currently have an adopted Core Strategy (2009) and saved policies from the Sheffield Unitary Development Plan (1998), but are working towards the creation of a new Plan for the City called the ‘Sheffield Plan’ which we are intending to adopt in 2018.

The Sheffield Plan is our chance to shape the future of the city.  It will guide the city’s growth by setting out how and where new development will take place, and is a long term strategy that will last until 2034.  The Plan will cover the whole of Sheffield, except those parts that fall within the Peak District National Park.
